Marilyn Louise Petty, 91, of Rushville, formerly of North Vernon, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2021, at the home of her daughter in Rushville.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral. Rev. Connie Barr officiated. Burial was at Grandview Cemetery in Madison. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.
Mrs. Petty graduated from Hanover High School in 1947. She had worked at Jefferson County Proving Grounds for 24 years before moving and retiring from the Veterans Outpatient Clinic in Fort Myers, Florida in 1989. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, shuffleboard, and crossword puzzles. Mrs. Petty loved music and played for church and the choir. She was a member of the Red Hatters, the First United Methodist Church in North Vernon, and of the Bayshore Community Chapel in North Fort Myers, Florida.
Born February 24, 1929, in Jefferson County, Mrs. Petty was the daughter of John and Mary Gray Estes. She was united in marriage to Robert Petty January 26,1947. He preceded her in death March 27,1999.
Survivors include daughters, Sheila (Emerson) Brooks of North Vernon, Kimberly (Dan) Shanahan of Rushville, and Kerry (Tony) Pierce of Indianapolis; son, Kevin Petty of Ocala, Florida; brother, Robert Estes of North Fort Myers, Florida; sister, Martha Brown of Madison; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Petty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Stacy Brooks; two infant sons; and a special friend, Joel Rarden.
