Milton Berle Ownbey, 70, of North Vernon died at 1:49 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at his residence.
Funeral services were Monday, January 11, 2021, at Jennings Church of Christ. Burial was at Mt. Aerie Cemetery in Letts.
Mr. Ownbey was a 1969 graduate of Jennings County High School and had worked for Arvin Industries and NTN Driveshaft, retiring in 2007.
He was a member of the Jennings Church of Christ, a former member of the Commiskey Baptist Church, president of Jennings County Little League, a youth baseball coach and treasurer, and a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, watching birds and squirrels, and watching his grandchildren play ball and dance.
Born February 18, 1950, in Seymour, Mr. Ownbey was the son of Woodrow Wilson Ownbey Sr. and Agnes Ernestine Yeager Ownbey. He married Anna Louise Armstrong June 13, 1971, at Burnsville Christian Church and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Bryant (Joann Amis) Ownbey of North Vernon, Jeff (Kathy) Ownbey of Westport, and Patrick (Christy) Ownbey of Madison; brother, Woodrow Ownbey Jr. of North Vernon; grandchildren, Chaz, Braden, Lexi, Luke, Maddy Ownbey, and Alex (Randall) Genda, all of North Vernon, Zachary, Zaynah, and Zoie Watson, all of Madison, and Andi (Anthony Baker) and Gary (Jess) Amis, both of Holton; and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Ownbey was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Edward, Raymond, Allen, and Loyal Dale Short.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Riley Hospital for Children or to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
