Stanley Cortez Spears, 88, of North Vernon died at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Septem-ber 2, 2020, at Robley Rex V.A. Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Funeral services were Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Burial, with VFW graveside rites, was at Vernon Cemetery.

Mr. Schultheis was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as a machinist for Industrial Machine in Hayden, I.T.T. Steel, and Decatur Mold, both in North Vernon. He was a member of the Restoration Fellowship Church in Butlerville, a lifetime member of AmVets Post #7 and the Matt Hester VFW Post 2021, Moose Lodge, and Eagles, all in North Vernon, and a former member of American Legion in Seymour.
He enjoyed golf, bowling, softball, gardening, and spending time with his family.

Born July 27, 1932, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of Ira B. and Ora (Watson) Spears. He married Rita Spears on December 18, 1999 at the Tea Creek Baptist Church in North Vernon; she survives.

Other survivors include sons, Steve (Vera) Spears of Crittenden, Kentucky and Jeffrey (Tina) Downs of North Vernon; daughter, Annette (Richard) Roney of Scipio; brothers, Lewis (Peggy) and Tom (Wilma) Spears, both of Summerset, Kentucky, and Dale (Linda) Spears of Yosemite, Kentucky; sisters, Stella Walker and Mary Lou Arnette, both of North Vernon, and Freeda Wesley of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Adam and A.J. (Kristie) Roney, both of Scipio, Devin and Samantha Downs, and Zachary (Marly) Mullikin, all of North Vernon, Micaela Downs of Westport, Teri Schwerman of Rising Sun, Carolyn (Dustin) Wilson of Wilmington, Ohio, and Billy Stewart of Dry Ridge, Kentucky; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Spears was preceded in death by parents; son, Roger Spears; brothers, Homer, Delbert, and Willis Spears; and sisters, Norma Jean Taylor and Beulah Denham.
