Leroy Lacey Jr., 89 was a U.S. Army vet

Leroy Lacey Jr., 89, of North Vernon died at 11:03 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at his residence.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2020, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Visitation will be Friday, July 17, 2020, from 10 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be at Rush Branch United Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Lacey was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a line worker for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for ten years before retiring in 1986. He had previously worked at Arvin Industries in Seymour for 20 years. Mr. Lacey was a member of Rush Branch United Methodist Church in Jennings County and enjoyed fishing, cutting firewood, and wood crafts.

Born December 8, 1930, in Vernon, Mr. Lacey was the son of Leroy Lacey Sr. and Bertha Mae Beam Lacey. He married Thelma Louise Redicker February 19, 1955, in Vernon and she preceded him in death June 3, 2011.

Survivors include his children, Barbara (David) Neal and Beverly (William) Waltermire, both of Commiskey, Danny (Peggy) Lacey of Butlerville, and Robert Lacey of North Vernon; siblings, Delores Hibbard, Betty Hawkins, and Earl Lacey, all of North Vernon; grandchildren, Danelle (Scott) Mathis of Columbus, Michele (Michael) Hopper of Hanover, Tasha (Ben) Lanning of Commiskey, Nancy Lacey of Butlerville, Billy Joe (Roberta) Waltermire of Muncie, Daniel (Alisha) Neal and Bobbi (Kiefer) Howard, both of Seymour, and Cody Lacey of North Vernon; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Lacey was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Robert, James, Charles, Frank, Merle, and Paul Lacey, Pat Canary and Dorothy Combest; and a grandchild, Michael Waltermire.
