Wayne Arthur Speer, 81, Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home
Wayne Arthur Speer, 81, of Lexington died at 10:05 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at Sellersburg Healthcare Center in Sellersburg.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2020, and one hour prior to services Saturday, June 27, 2020. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.
Mr. Speer was a lifelong farmer and worked for N.A.C. in North Vernon for eight years before retiring in 2000. He was a former member of the Vernon Baptist Church and had been attending Open Door Baptist Church in Deputy. He enjoyed farming, raising tobacco and farm
animals, and watching Westerns.
Born August 18, 1938 in Milan, Mr. Speer was the son of William Otho and Emily Gertrude Yeager Speer. He married Janet Lou Jordan January 10, 1957, at Pilgrim Holiness Church in North Vernon and she survives.
Other survivors include children, William (Vicki) Speer of Salt Lake City, Utah, James (Brenda) Speer of Dupont, Arthur (Patti) Speer of Cincinnati, Ohio, Douglas (Willa) Speer of Elizabethtown, Theodore (Christine) Speer of Yelm, Washington, Annamaria Stewart and Barry (Elizabeth) Speer, both of Madison, and Nicholas Speer of Georgetown, Kentucky; sister, Virginia Brauer of Brownsburg; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Speer was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers; one sister; and three grandchildren.
Donations may be made through the funeral home to Open Door Baptist Church in Deputy.
