Farrel G. "Pete" Foist, 89, of Columbus died at 5:55 a.m. Friday, November 29, 2019, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home in Columbus with Pastor Dale Boyd officiating. Family and friends may gather for visitation at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until time of services Wednesday, December 4, 2019. Burial will be at Springer Cemetery.
Mr. Foist was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He had a 35-year career at Cummins Engine Company where he retired in 1985 as a pan line scheduler. He attended the Butlerville Worship Center in Butlerville and was a member of the VFW Post 1987 and the Columbus Moose Lodge No. 398. An avid horseman, Mr. Foist owned several horses over the years, enjoyed horseback riding and had been a member of the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Horse Patrol. He also enjoyed camping and collecting antique glassware.
Born May 1, 1930, in Jackson County, Mr. Foist was the son of Harry "Buck" and Irene Wilbur Foist. On May 28, 1955, he married Lou E. Palmer and she preceded him in death March 5, 2011.
Survivors include daughters, Sandy (Larry) Smith of Hope, Connie (Mike) Marling of Seymour, and Bev (Larry) Robinson of North Vernon; sister, Linda (Larry) Rumph of Seymour; brother, Harry (Adella) Foist of Seymour; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Foist was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson, Chad Robinson; and a great-grandson, Brandon Ratliff.
