Allen D. Beckwith, 70, of Crothersville died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2019 in Indianapolis at Franciscan Health Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday July 12, 2019, at Adams Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Crothersville. Rev. E. Richard Pimpleton will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, July 12, 2019 from 11 until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at New Providence Cemetery.
Mr. Beckwith was a 1966 Columbus High School graduate. He worked at the former Evening Republican in the printing department as a typesetter, later as a reporter and the newspaper's photographer. Mr. Beckwith retired from the Laborers' International Union Local 741 working in construction for over 30 years. He enjoyed playing bluegrass music on his banjo, bass, and hambone with spoons. Mr. Beckwith learned and studied about flying planes at Bakalar Air Force Base Airport in Columbus and he loved the horse track, was an equine enthusiast, and shared his knowledge and talked to everyone he could about horses.
Born July 25, 1948, in Newberry, Mr. Beckwith was the son of Owen Neal Beckwith and Martha Elizabeth Moore Beckwith. On February 26, 2001, he married Rose Chambers in Seymour and she survives.
Other survivors include his children, Lisa (Tim) Bennett and Jeffery Beckwith of Columbus, and Mike, Walter Jr. and Justin Barger, all of Crothersville; grandchildren, Trevor (Kaitlyn) and Derrick Beckwith, Travis and Abagail Bennett, and Jordan Palmer, all of Columbus, Ridge (Brittany) Bennett of Edinburgh, Kloe Barger and Malakia Honey, both of Seymour, Jadyn Barger of Salem, and Daniel and Madison Dotson; siblings, Patricia Schafer of Marshall, Illinois, June (Edward) Dayoff of Columbus, and Robert (Denise) Beckwith of New Albany.
Mr. Beckwith was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Annabell Bickley; and brothers, Paul and John Beckwith.
