Doris Pearl Bowman Ivy, 75, of Rowlett, Texas, died Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center at Lake Pointe in Rowlett, Texas.
Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home from 12 noon until time of services.
Mrs. Ivy was a 1961 graduate of North Vernon High School and graduated with Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Indiana University in Bloomington. A second Master's Degree was completed at the University of Texas in Library Science. She spent many years as a librarian in public schools in Texas after having taught high school science in California and Michigan. Mrs. Ivy also worked for the Occupational Technology Assistant Network in California for several years before returning to Texas. Mrs. Ivy was a member of the Texas Gamma Theta chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa International sorority and they have named their annual scholarship award after her.
Born July 7, 1943, in Jennings County, Mrs. Ivy was the daughter of Graham Martin and Dorothy Jane Rudicel Bowman. She married Henry Ivy, Jr., August 18, 1972, in Columbia, Missouri.
Survivors include her husband of Rowlett, TX; son Henry Ivy, III (Monica) of Sachshe, Texas; daughter, Sarah (Daniel) Singleton of Sophia, Bulgaria; and six grandchildren.
Mrs. Ivy is preceded in death by h parents and sisters, Carolyn Burkman and Mary Jane Bowman.
