Billie Callahan, 84, of North Vernon died at 5:55 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2019, at Majestic Health Care.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Phillip Elliott will officiate. Burial with military rites will be at Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until time of services at the funeral home.
Mr. Callahan was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from Cummins Engine Company, Inc. after 38 years. He was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the casinos, his church, and family.
Born August 3, 1934, in Slemp, Kentucky, Mr. Callahan was the son of Culty and Lizzie Polley Callahan. He married Sandra Layman December 17, 1982. She survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include sons, Jeff (Leyl) Callahan of Georgia, Kevin Callahan of Seymour, and Steve (Lora) Callahan of Scipio; stepdaughter, Melissa Leonard of North Vernon; sister, Marjorie Roberts of North Vernon; brothers, Lloyd Callahan of Corbin, Kentucky and Harold "Moe" Callahan of North Vernon; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Mr. Callahan was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lori Turner; sister, Goldie Kennedy; and brother, Jack Callahan.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County or North Vernon Vet-To-Vet.
