Larry D. "Skip" Carpenter, 79, of Seymour died Friday, February 8, 2019, in Columbus at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Voss and Sons Funeral Service in Seymour with Rev. Jim Hudson officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 89, American Legion Post 1925, DAV, Korean and Vietnam Veterans all of Seymour. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday, February 12, 2019, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, February 13, 2019, after 9 a.m. until time of services.
Mr. Carpenter graduated in 1958 from Shields High School in Seymour. He entered the U.S. Navy where he was a Machinist Mate serving on the aircraft carrier, USS Lake Champlain. He was of Baptist Faith and retired from Cummins Engine Company after 26 years of Service. Mr. Carpenter enjoyed watching his great-grandchildren play sports and fishing with his buddy at Put in Bay and Lake Erie.
Born in Seymour July 4, 1939, Mr. Carpenter was the son of Lawrence and Beatrice Gerdom Carpenter. On September 4, 1960, he married Judy Lucas at Peter's Switch Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife; children, Larry (Brenda) Carpenter and Lori (Mark Bledsoe) Carpenter; grandchildren, John, Amber, and Rachel (Ambrava) Schrader and Lukas (Heather) and Logan (Kori) Carpenter; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Judy Rigsbee and LaDonna Myers-West.
Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wallace and Robert Carpenter.
