Melvin Charles Cathey, 91, of Greensburg died at 4:23 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Morning Breeze Healthcare Center in Greensburg.
Funeral services were Monday, February 11, 2019, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor John Marquis officiating. Burial, with graveside rites, was at Westport Cemetery.
Mr. Cathey had been a lifelong resident of Decatur County and member of the Westport Baptist Church. He retired from Delta Faucet in 1992 after 33 years of service; he was also a farmer. Mr. Cathey was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII.
Born June 3, 1927, in Decatur County, Mr. Cathey was the son of Lester Joseph and Pearl Honeydew Hanshew Cathey. He married Lou Ellen Pollitt in Milroy November 1, 1947. She preceded him in death September 1, 1988. He then married Mary Margaret Pollitt in Westport on March 18, 1989 and she survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include daughters, Vivian Adams, Barbara (Andrew) Gaylor, and Patricia (Rick) Napper, all of Greensburg, Marsha (John) Walstad of Hope, Sandra (Randy) Schnier of Westport, Patricia (Rick) Napper of Greensburg; son, Ronald (Wendy) Cathey of Greensburg; stepdaughters, Pamela Cox of Virginia and Ruth Ann Crumbley of Daphne, Alabama; stepsons, Steve (Michelle) Clark of Columbus, Mike (Wanda) Clark of St. Paul, and Norman Clark of Texas; 15 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Cathey was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janet Lynn Cathey; sister, Violet Case; brothers, Glen, James W., and George Cathey.
