Julia Smith Kehrt, 83 was active in community
Julia Smith Kehrt, 83, of North Vernon died Friday, June 8, 2018, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 12 noon at Tea Creek Baptist Church with burial at the church cemetery. Calling will be Wednesday, June 13, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Thursday, June 14, 2018, from 11 a.m. until time of services at the church.
Mrs. Kehrt worked for 35 years and retired from Muscatatuck State Hospital and worked at Walmart in North Vernon after retirement. She was a member and treasurer of Smiling Seniors and a member of the Senior Resource Center as well at Tea Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Kehrt volunteered at Democrat headquarters, Tea Creek Baptist Church, and Senior Resource Center. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, bingo, and Mexican train. She also loved gardening and growing flowers and collecting angels, clocks, and butterflies.
Born August 19, 1934, in Magoffin County, Kentucky, Mrs. Kehrt was the daughter of Kelly and Rosy Whitt Smith.
Survivors include sons, Dale (Darlene) Fields of Edinburg, Mathew (Tonya), Mark (Dawn), Tracy and Albert (Patty) Ritchie, all of North Vernon; daughters, Margie Bowling, Donna Reynolds, and Janice Collins, all of North Ver-non, and Wanda (Daniel) White of Seymour; over 30 grandchildren; over 50 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bonnie Cardinal, Adam Smith, Viola Tyler, all of North Vernon, and Ralph Smith.
Mrs. Kehrt was preceded in death by parents; husbands, William Fields, James R. Otte, and Edward Kehrt; siblings, Ralph, Lacy, Ephrain, and Ollie Smith, Jr., Jewell Wade and Mabelle Redick; a son, Luke; daughter, Mona Lou; grandson, Jeremiah Ritchie; and granddaughter, Brianna.
