James E. "Jimmy" Simmons, 78, of Vevay died Friday, January 5, 2018, at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison.
Funeral services were Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Lytle Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel in Madison. Burial was at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison.
Mr. Simmons retired as a machine operator from Pilot Industries in North Vernon. He was a member of Union Baptist Church at Lamb, where he was a former moderator and current assistant moderator. He was also a member of Scottsburg Kiwanis Club, the Madison Moose Lodge, Madison Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1969 and Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion, where he was a former member of the honor guard. Mr. Simmons enjoyed fishing and traveling. He also enjoyed playing Santa Claus for many years at his church, and other events and private homes.
Born January 31, 1939, in Henry County, Kentucky, Mr. Simmons was the son of Robert D. and Lorraine Duvall Simmons. He married Mary A. Jewell June 2, 1960 and she survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his wife a brother, Carroll "Tommy" Simmons of Madison.
Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bobby Simmons; and a sister, Sharon Bliton.
