Anthony Staten, 86 had varied careers
Anthony "Tony" Staten, 86, of North Vernon died at 9:15 a.m. Monday, December 4, 2017, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
In keeping with his wishes cremation is planned. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon.
Mr. Staten, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, worked as an engineer for Cummins Engine Company for 30 years retiring December 1, 1988. He was owner of B&B Taxi service in Seymour for five years and was a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for 11 years serving with sheriffs Perry Cummings and Dick Wilson. Mr. Staten attended St. Mary's and North Vernon High School. He enjoyed reading, yard work, and was an all-around do it yourself handyman who could fix anything. He was taking lessons to earn his pilot license.
Born July 21, 1931, in Jennings County, Mr. Staten was the son of George and Lucy Shaklett Staten. He married Doreice Taylor on February 21, 1960. She died December 25, 1984.
Survivors include daughters, Fran Staten of North Vernon and Tanya Staten of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a sister, Betty Brown of Kentucky.
Mr. Staten was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Jessie, Howard, Lester, Edward, George, Eugene, William, and Robert; and sisters, Juanita, Emma, Louise, Bessie, and Delores.
