Sam Harper, 76, of Sellersburg died Monday, August 7, 2017, at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
Memorial services will be held Friday, August 11, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown with burial at the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday after 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Harper was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a retired truck driver for the City of Sellersburg. He was a member of the American Legion Post 335.
Born January 27, 1941, in Powell County, Kentucky, Mr. Harper was the son of Ernest and Edie Shoemaker Harper.
Survivors include his sons, Kevin (Sophia) Harper of Sellersburg and David (Kathy) Harper of Charlestown; daughters, Chris Cooper of Lexington, Lisa (John) Gibbons of Louisiana, and Deanna Anderson of Lexington, Kentucky; brother, Roy Harper of Clay City, Kentucky; sisters, Judy (Billy) Puckett of Stanton, Kentucky and Betty Harper of Birmingham, Alabama; his companion's children, Elaina Freeman and Dana Cherry, both of Madison, Sharon Spellman of Deputy, and Lana McCutcheon of Sellersburg; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Mr. Harper was preceded in death by a son, Michael Harper; companion, Joan DeHart; great-grandchild, Shylan Rose Buntain; and several siblings.
