Leah Israel Bowling, 59, of North Vernon died at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at her home.
Funeral services were Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the Butlerville Mennonite Church with Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. Funeral services were entrusted to Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Mrs. Bowling was home schooled, attended Colorado Technical University and received her Associate's and Bachelor's Degree in criminal justice. She later earned a Master's Degree in music. Mrs. Bowling was a member of the Democratic Party Women's Group where she was a former president and currently vice president, Democratic Party Central Committee and the Butlerville Mennonite Church. She was also a Democratic Precinct Committeeperson for Campbell Township and an Advocate for the Mentally Handicapped. Mrs. Bowling had worked at Indiana Mentor for 10 years and T/A Truck Stop in Seymour. Her hobbies included being outdoors, fishing, camping, and playing the guitar. She was also on two Nick Clooney Shows when she was 12.
Born September 29, 1957, in Maryland, Mrs. Bowling was the daughter of Josiah and Deborah Azareel Israel. She married Charles "Bill" Bowling on October 28, 1978, at the AME Church in Seymour and he survives.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Michael Bowling of Butlerville; grandchildren, Elijah Bowling of North Carolina, and Jaime Bowling and Laila Arthur, both of Butlerville; and a brother, John M. Israel.
Mrs. Bowling was preceded in death by her parents and sons, Joseph and James Bowling.
