Josephine Smith, 76, of North Vernon died at 10:09 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Michael Biggs officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 10 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was employed for many years as a press operator for CEW Enterprises. She was a member of the State Street Community Worship Center and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending church.
Born June 5, 1940 in Monterey, Tennessee, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Lewis and Delphia Davis Vaughn. She married James H. Smith December 30, 1992. He died December 23, 2014.
Survivors include son, Roger Hicks of North Vernon; daughter, Joanna (Johnny Mason) Bailey and Joyce Anna (Jason) Hamlin, both of North Vernon; stepsons, Greg (Ronda) Smith and Jerry (Viola) Smith, both of North Vernon; stepdaughters, Tina Stout of Tennessee, and Debbie Smith and Kim Yonts, both of North Vernon; brothers, Fred Vaughn of Indianapolis, and Harson, Arnold Jr., and James Vaughn, all of Monterey, Tennessee; sisters, Norma Jean Randolph and Mildred Roe, both of Monterey, Tennessee; several grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-step-grandchildren.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by parents; first husband, James Bailey; second husband, James Smith; stepdaughter, Jacqueline Bailey; stepmother, Rosie Vaughn; brothers, Russell, Herschel, Paul, Arnold, and Bobby Vaughn; and sisters, Jewell Cathcart, Christine Mahoney, Connie Ribardi, and Wanda Faye Vaughn.
