James Jenkins, 74, of NV had served sheriff, Civil Defense and Boy Scouts

James "Jim" Jenkins, 74, of North Vernon died at 12:18 a.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017, at his residence.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. W. Sherman Beville officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, March 21, 2017, from 4 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services Wednesday, March 22, 2017. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.

Mr. Jenkins was a 1961 graduate of North Vernon High School and worked for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus as foreman for 30 plus years. He also worked security for N.V.I.C. in North Vernon. Mr. Jenkins was a reserve deputy for the Jennings County Sheriff's Department, Jennings County Civil Defense, Boy Scout Leader, and flagman at Twin City Speedway. He was a member of CB Club and enjoyed talking on CB radios as well as being with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family.

Born May 16, 1943, in Indiana, Mr. Jenkins was the son of Olin and Mary Madge Talkington Jenkins. He married Annetta Ellen Beeman November 5, 1961 in Zenas and she preceded him in death November 16, 2009.

Survivors include sons, Rusty (Carol) Jenkins and Jack Hatton, both of North Vernon; daughters, Angela Jenkins of Kentucky, Lora (Roger) Vanosdol of Butlerville, and Lynnetta Jenkins and Melinda Vanosdol, both of North Vernon; brother, Ronnie Heavern of North Vernon; sister, Frances Dow of Michigan; grandchildren, Cody (Jesse) Vanosdol of Ellettsville, Tiffani Vanosdol of Butlerville, Cory and Kacia Jenkins, Sheldon Vanosdol, Emily, Michael, Lesley, and Angel Hatton, and Conner Hunt, all of North Vernon, Whitney (Steve) Hatcher, and Mackenzie and Landon Jenkins, all of Columbus, and Wendi Hunt of Kentucky; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister, Barbara McKain.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Vernon Cemetery.
