Robert Wilds, 90, was a successful entrepreneur who kept his ties to JC

Robert Wilds, 90, of Indianapolis died Sunday, August 31, 2014.

Funeral services were Monday at Crown Hill Funeral Home in Indianapolis.

Mr. Wilds graduated from Vernon High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He started his own business, E-W Mold & Tool Company, in Indianapolis shortly after his discharge from the service. In 1986 he sold his mold business and stayed as president until his resignation in 1988. He was Chief Executive Officer of Wilds Management Co., a property management business. Mr. Wilds was an avid Hoosier basketball fan and he and other investors purchased the Pacers to facilitate their transition from the American Basketball Association to the National Basketball Association. He enjoyed spending time at his ranching operation in Jennings County, Triple "S" Ranch and he also owned quarter horses and Seminole cattle. Mr. Wilds was a member of the American Business Club, the Columbia Club, the Hundred Club, Indianapolis Athletic Club, and Meridian Hills Country Club as well as the Southport Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Thirty-Third Degree Association and was Potentate of Murat Shrine Temple in 1981. He also served on the board of Citizens Gas & Coke Utility and the Citizen's Speedway Committee as well as being a president and member of the Marion County Sheriffís merit board for 20 years. He was also presented the Council of the Sagamore by the Wabash designation.

Survivors include his wife, "T"; daughters, Sharry (Bob) Doiron, Shirley Bryant, and Selina Wilds; stepson, Michael (Beth) McMullen; stepdaughter, Michelle McMullen; five grandchildren, Kendra York, Rob Bryant, Morgan Davis, and Ross and Cerelle McMullen; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Wilds.

Charitable donations may be made to Shriner's Burns Hospital, attn.: Lisa Butt, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.
