Harvey Woodson Oliver was native of Kentucky
Harvey Woodson Oliver, Jr., 71, of Hanover died at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014, in Hanover.
Funeral services were Sunday at the New Hope Baptist Church near Chelsea with Pastor Michael LaFountain officiating. Burial was at New Prospect Cemetery near Saluda.
Mr. Oliver graduated from Muhlenberg Central High School in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky in 1961. He began working in the steel mills in Gary and then with Cowden Mfg. in Greenville, Kentucky. He retired from Louisville Mfg. Co. in Louisville, Kentucky in 1991. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church near Chelsea and enjoyed photography, hunting, fishing, flying, and being with his family.
Born August 24, 1943, in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, Mr. Oliver was the son of Harvey Woodson Sr. and Goldie Scott Oliver. He married Virginia May Nelson on September 24, 1960, in Shawneetown, Illinois, and she survives.
Additional survivors include sons, Harvey W. (Sandy) Oliver III of Louisville, Kentucky and Robert (Theresa Williams) Bethke of Madison; daughters, Lori Tatem of Hanover and Eddi (Dave) Cox of Espyville, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Sky, Harvey IV, Dakota and Jayce; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl, J.T., and Marvin Oliver, and Hansford "Bubba" Walker; sisters, Carrie Hendricks, Ethel Robertson, Loreen Chaney, Helen Oglesby, Nadine Leathers, Beulah Crossier, Pauline White, Geneva Traylor, and two infant sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope Baptist Academy through the funeral home.
