Gladys Tichenor, 96, was lifelong Decatur resident
Gladys Marie Tichenor, 96, of Westport died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Ed Thorpe, Rev. Eddie Freeman and Rev. Charles Tichenor officiating. Burial will follow at the Rodney Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Monday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Tichenor had been a lifelong resident of Decatur County and graduated in 1936 from Letts High School. She was a member of Friendship Separate Baptist Church in Rodney and enjoyed gardening.
Born February 14, 1918, in Decatur County, Mrs. Tichenor was the daughter of Ora Marion and Alpha Belle Scripture Grimes. She married Willard C. Tichenor in Greensburg on December 21, 1936 and he preceded her in death on September 2, 1983.
Survivors include her daughters, Connie (Millard) Atchley and Barbara (Kentland) Floyd both of Westport, and Miriam (Bradley) SurVance of Shoals; sons, Rev. Charles (Lois Jean), Marshall Lee, and Milo Tichenor, all of Westport, and Max Eugene (Barbara) Tichenor of Greensburg; sister, Wilma (Jim) Parish of Westport; 29 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Tichenor was preceded in death by brothers, Carl, Forrest, Russell and Virgil Grimes; grandson, Brad Tichenor; granddaughter, Alicia Tichenor; and great grandson, Preston Tichenor.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Rodney Cemetery Fund.
