Thelma Irene Hughes, 86 at Regal Rugs 32 years
Thelma Irene Hughes, 86, of North Vernon died at 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Jennings Health Care Center.
Funeral ervices will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Bob Weeks officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be at the Vernon Cemetery.
Mrs. Hughes was a secretary and worked in research for the former Regal Rugs retiring in 1995 after 32 years. She was a 1946 graduate of Vernon High School. Mrs. Hughes enjoyed crocheting, working in her yard and spending time with her grandkids.
Born on February 5, 1928 in Jennings County, Mrs. Hughes was the daughter of Hubert and Ruth Frazier Short. She married Richard Hughes on February 9, 1947 at the Zion Baptist Church in North Vernon.
Survivors include her husband of North Vernon; two sons, Mike (Linda) Hughes of North Vernon and Gary (Sandy) Hughes of Jasper; two brothers, Danny (Pat) Short of Paris and Larry (Charlotte) Short of Commiskey; a sister-in-law, Nedra Short, of Seymour; grandchildren, Rebecca (Nathan) Fry and Andrew (Candice) Hughes both of Indianapolis, Ashley (Santiago) Sotomayor of Phoenix, Arizona, Lori (Shawn) Butler of Asheville, North Carolina, and Jennifer (Dave) George of North Vernon; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and William Short; four sisters, Donna Goldschmidt, Wilma Faye King, Roberta Pettigrew and Shirley Short.
