Helen Louise Stearns was a NV homemaker

Helen Louise Stearns, 93, of North Vernon died at 3:10 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Jennings Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with William Gerhard officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Mrs. Stearns was a homemaker and was a member of the First Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, babysitting and her dogs.

Born July 22, 1920 in Switzerland County, Mrs. Stearns was the daughter of Frank and Sylvia Eades Mathews. She married Robert Stearns on October 9, 1937 and he preceded her in death May 5, 1980.

Survivors include a son, Thomas (Rochelle) Stearns of North Vernon; daughter, Linda Conwell of North Vernon; daughter-in-law, Joan Stearns of North Vernon; 11 grandchildren, Ronda (Greg) Smith, Gregg (Jennifer) and Clint (Becky) Laman, Cindy (Greg) McIntosh, Amanda (Charlie Wells) Ross, Marcia (Perry Collett), Bobby (Kay), Chad (Brooke), Mieka, and Tia Stearns all of North Vernon, and Connie (Jimmy) Turner of Seymour; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jerry W. Stearns; five brothers, Lloyd, John, Pete, Al and Harold Mathews; and a son-in-law, Keith Conwell.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home for expenses.
