Charles D. Shinolt, 73

Charles D. Shinolt, 73 a C'bus fireman 28 years

Charles D. Shinolt, 73, of Columbus died at 2:25 a.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home in Columbus with Columbus Fire Department Chaplain Ron Bridgewater officiating. Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. In keeping with Mr. Shinolt's wishes, cremation is planned. Columbus Fire Department Honor Guard will stand guard and military honors will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Mr. Shinolt was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from Columbus Fire Department in 1994 after 28 years of service. He was an avid golfer and was able to hit seven holes-in-one during his lifetime. Mr. Shinolt enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Born in North Vernon on January 22, 1941, Mr. Shinolt was the son of the late Charles B. and Mary E. Randall Shinolt. He married Joyce M. "Jodi" Bailey June 22, 1988, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. She survives.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Kristen Arold of Seattle, Washington; stepson, Brian Bailey of Columbus; brother, James Shinolt of North Vernon; sister, Brenda J. Bohen of North Carolina; and grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler Arold, Brian Reid, and Bethany and Kristin Bailey. Mr. Shinolt was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gerald and Rex Shinolt.
