Opal Irene Lucas Ritchie was in dietary at MSDC
Opal Irene Lucas Ritchie, 86, of North Vernon died at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.
Funeral services were Saturday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Earon Davis, Jr. officiating. Burial was at Vernon Cemetery.
Mrs. Ritchie was a supervisor for 28 years in the Dietary Department of the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Rush Branch United Methodist Church and was attending Commiskey Baptist Church. Mrs. Ritchie had Paris Crossing High School and Supervisory School in Versailles and Louisville, Kentucky. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, playing bingo and listening to country music.
Born June 19, 1927 in Jennings County, Mrs. Ritchie was the daughter of Rollie and Iva Belle Stout Wilson. She married her first husband, William Ray Lucas on June 22, 1946 and he preceded her in death on July 25, 1994. She married her second husband Curtis Ritchie in 1997 and he died in December 2001.
She is survived by her son, Roger Wayne (Sherry) Lucas of North Vernon; a daughter, Sheila Dianne (David) Yux of North Vernon; one stepson and five stepdaughters; one sister, Mary (Bob) Pettit of North Vernon; 12 grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two sons, William F. Lucas and Robert Leo Lucas; a daughter, Sharon Fox; a brother, Floyd Wilson; and a sister, Lorene Elizabeth Jones.
