Wanda Jean Dixon, 89 was active in community

Wanda Jean Dixon, 89, of Indianapolis and formerly of North Vernon died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2014 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Bob Ochs officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. Eastern Star Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday by members of North Vernon Chapter #183, O.E.S. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Mrs. Dixon, a 1942 graduate of North Vernon High School, was the office manager for Hanson Aggregates in North Vernon for 46 years. She volunteered as a Guild Lady for St. Vincent Jennings Hospital and at the Jennings County Coordinating Council. She was a 70-year member of the North Vernon Chapter #183, Order of the Eastern Star, a charter member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, member of Smiling Senior Citizens and the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Dixon was a former member of North Vernon Lions Club and a past board member of the North Vernon Assembly Rainbow for Girls. She enjoyed reading, watching television and was a Pacer Basketball Fan.

Born March 17, 1924 in Nebraska, Mrs. Dixon was the daughter of George A. and Alma Grinstead Pearcy. She married Edward Richard Dixon on May 10, 1947 in Jeffersonville. He preceded her in death on February 15, 2009.

Survivors include a son Clayton Joseph (Jackie) Dixon of Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Kimberly Jo Eder of Indianapolis; brother, Verl (Doris) Pearcy of Scottsburg; five grandchildren, Heather ReNae (Jeremy) Fowler of Boone, North Carolina, Emmy Lyn (Marc) Murphy of Augusta, Kansas, Jason David (Tracy) Eder of Fishers, Benjamin Edward Eder and Kathleen Michelle (Mike) Mollenhoff, both of North Vernon; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Dixon was preceded in death by parents and her husband.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to St. Mary's Catholic School Library.
