Helen L.W. Ritchie, 98 was a lifelong farmer
Helen L. Wehner Ritchie, 98, of Madison died at 4:10 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 at Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison with Pastor Troy Hedges officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison.
Mrs. Ritchie had worked on farms all of her life. She was the oldest living member of Wirt Baptist Church and was a member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed hard work, gardening, cooking, mowing her lawn and was an avid Elvis fan.
Born March 26, 1915, in Jefferson County, Mrs. Ritchie was the daughter of Charles and Letha Kessler Wehner. She married Howard O. Ritchie on January 14, 1931. He preceded her in death on December 31, 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Gwendolyn Kay (Billy) Law of Madison; two sons, Darryl H. (Patti) and Charles F. (June) Ritchie, all of Hanover; grandchildren, Dorrell, Barry, Dean, David, Douglas, Dianna, Heath, Carla, Brent, Greg and Hannah; 27 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Aneta (Carl) Furnish and Imogene Cline of Madison, all of Madison and Phyllis Smith and Letha Ebley Long, both of Hanover; and two brothers, Harlen (Polly) Wehner of Madison and Gerald (Ruby) Wehner of Hanover.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ritchie was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest Otto, Charles, Raymond and Leo Wehner.
