Stephen Douglas West, 66

Stephen Douglas West, 66 active in builders' group

Stephen Douglas West, 66, of Bedford and formerly of Seymour, died Thursday, December 12, 2013 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at the Leesville United Methodist Church Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Rob Kirts officiating. Burial will take place at Leesville Cemetery with a dove release.

Family and friends may call at Voss Chapel in Seymour Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at the Church in Leesville from 12:30 p.m. until time of service.

Mr. West was a member of Leesville United Methodist Church. He was a 1965 graduate of Seymour Senior High School and retired from Cummins Engine Company after 30 years of service. He was on the board of directors of the Jackson-Jennings Homebuilders Association, the board of directors of the Kenray Lake Homeowners Association, and was Environmental Protection Agency Certified. Mr. West loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Born July 21, 1947 in Seymour, Mr. West was the son of Earl Harding West and Dorothy Mae Burnett West who survives. On July 3, 1995 in Nashville, he married Alice A. Gerth who survives.

In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. West is survived by his children, Kevin D. (Michele M.) West, Jason T. (Tabitha A.) West, Maria A. (Adam S.) Hecht, and Elaine D. (Max) Singh; grandchildren, Iliana M., Sophia M., and B. Cade West, Alyssa P. Dobbs, Shay E. Hecht, Nicholas J. Durant, and Avery J. Singh; and sister, Donna J. Hinson.

He was preceded in death by his father and granddaughter Vivian M. West. The family asks that memorials be written to Leesville United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
