Mary L. Cockerham, 78 liked being out in nature
Mary L. Cockerham, 78, of Seymour died at Schneck Medical Center, Saturday, December 14, 2013.
Funeral service will be Wednesday at Voss Chapel in Seymour at 10 a.m. with Rev. Kenny Roberson officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday after 9 a.m. until time of service.
Mary attended Victory Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Cockerham retired after several years at Silgan. Her hobbies included ballgames, watching NASCAR and camping and fishing.
Born in Cortland on November 17, 1935, Mrs. Cockerham was the daughter of Edward P. and Bertie (Day) Stewart. On February 9, 1952 she married James F. Reynolds, who preceded her in death on December 23, 1956. In October of 1957 she married George W. Smallwood who preceded her in death. On July 16, 1967, she married J.C. Cockerham, who preceded in death December 23, 1985.
Survivors include a sons, James A. (Vickie) Reynolds, George D. (Millie) and Kenneth D. (Mary) Smallwood; daughter, Pamela J. Smallwood Ross; stepdaughter, Becky (Gene) Reasoner; stepsons Michael J. (Pat) and Randy (Peggy) Cockerham; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth "Dolly" Smith.
Mrs. Cockerham was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; stepson, Timothy Lee Cockerham; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles "Buck", Merrill "Pete", and Robert "Bob" Stewart; sisters, Doris Martin and Betty Dailey; half-brother, Everett Stewart; and half-sister, Mildred Stewart Smith.
