Lola Evelene Shepherd had worked at MSDC

Lola Evelene Shepherd, 79, of North Vernon died at 7:22 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2013 at Plainfield Healthcare Center in Plainfield.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Lewis Wright officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the funeral Friday funeral home. Burial will be at Otter Creek Cemetery in Nebraska.

Mrs. Shepherd retired from Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in 1981 after 18 years of service. She then was employed as a Nanny for Drs. Ron and Linda Landin of Fort Wayne for 10 years, retiring again in 1996. Mrs. Shepherd attended Holton Schools and was a member of First Baptist Church in North Vernon. She enjoyed crocheting in her younger years, caring for children, and cooking.

Born July 17, 1934 in Oneida, Tennessee, Mrs. Shepherd was the daughter of Barton Bartholomew and Mattie Ethel Allen Angel. She married Hiram Jay Shepherd on July 17, 1955 at Otter Creek Baptist Church in Nebraska. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2003.

Survivors include two sons, Randall Hiram (Kitty) Shepherd of North Vernon and Darrell Jay (Cindy) Shepherd of Huntertown; one daughter, Reva Jean Shepherd-Woodall of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Christofer Quin-lan Noble Shepherd of Olathe, Kansas, Gabriel Nicholas "Nick" Hiram Shepherd of North Vernon, and Michael Jay and Janelle Nicole Shepherd of Huntertown; three brothers Chet (Sue) Angel and Odom (Lucy) Angel both of Seymour and Tom (Linda) Angel of North Vernon; and three sisters, Norma (David) Jackson and Dorsie Jordan of North Vernon and Evon Wainscott of Kokomo.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Shepherd was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Mason Sr., Lionel and Francis Vernon Angel; and two sisters, Flora Sproessig and Magdalene Angel.

Memorial through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County or Riley Children's Hospital.
