Mary P.T.C. Fussell, 95 of Texas was award-
winning grower of irises
Mary Pearl Thomas Cotton Fussell, 95, of Waco, Texas and formerly of North Vernon, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013, in Texas.
She will be buried in Vernon Cemetery beside her twin sister, Lydia, in the spring. Local arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Mrs. Fussell's family moved to Jennings County when she was an infant. She grew up in rural Jennings County near Lovett and graduated from Lovett High School in 1936. She was a beautician, dental assistant and a volunteer at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, Texas for many years. Mrs. Fussell, who loved raising irises, was a member of the American Iris Society and won many blue ribbons for her achievements.
Born September 17, 1918 in Carroll County, Kentucky, Mrs. Fussell was the daughter of Ross and Catherine Fuller Thomas.
Survivors include son, Thomas Earl (Janice) Cotton of Bellmead, Texas; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Juanita Catherine Thomas Harrison of Fort Worth, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Fletcher F. Cotton and Phillip Fussell; and seven siblings, Joseph, Morris, Victor, Claude Richard, Ellagene Green, Pauline Green, and Lydia Earl Thomas.
