Gary Richard Turner, age 59, of Terre Haute died on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
A memorial service for Mr. Turner will be conducted at a later date. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services were entrusted with the care of the arrangements.
Mr. Turner was a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and Navy veteran. He was an employee of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology since 1995 and served as the principal director of numerous student instrumental groups and was the pit conductor for the Drama Club musicals. Mr. Turner developed the institute's minor degree program in Music where he taught Music Theory and Music Appreciation. He retired in August 2013 as Coordinator of Music Programs in the Humanities and Social Sciences Department of Rose-Hulman.
Born March 10, 1954 in Sullivan, Mr. Turner was the son of Jack and Ruth (Lash) Turner.
Survivors include a brother, James D. Turner of Columbus; three cousins, Ruth Ann Karnes of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Linda Purins of Midland, Michigan and Ronald Elder of Russellville, Kentucky; aunt, Katherine Elder of Midland, Michigan; and two nephews, Lucas and Bryce Turner both of Columbus.
Memorials for Mr. Turner may be sent through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
