Dr. Marcella Sullivan Modisett, 96

­Dr. Marcella S. Modisett of Madison instrumental in area's medical care

­Dr. Marcella Sullivan Modisett, 96, of Madison died Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 10:20 p.m. at her home.

A celebration of life will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Morgan & Nay Funeral Home in Madison with Rev. Dennis Ingle officiating. Calling will be Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until time of the ceremony at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Madison.

Dr. Modisett was instrumental in establishing the partnership that was known as the Madison Clinic. She was active in various community groups, including serving on the boards of the Kentuckiana Girl Scouts of America, Jefferson County Board of Health, Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County Historical Society and Planned Parenthood of Indiana. Dr. Modisett also received a number of awards including the Madison Area Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award and the Girl Scout Tough Cookie award.

She was a member of the Daffodil Society of Southern Indiana and also participated in the annual bird count for many years.

Born June 6, 1917 in Wabash, Mrs. Modisett was the daughter of Devaine and Mabel Sholty Sullivan. She married Jackson Woollen Modisett in North Manchester on June 6, 1943.

Survivors include daughters, Pat Modisett (Sam Wilson) of Houston, Texas and Karen Modisett of Madison; sons, J. Michael (Jan Kleopfer) Modisett of Lexington and W. Marc (Kim Roberts) Modisett of Waterford, Michigan; grandchildren, Sarah Wilson of St. Louis, Missouri and Cathy (Ryan) Berkey of San Francisco, California.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dr. Modisett was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Demoine Sullivan.

Memorial contributions to the Community Founda-tion of Madison and Jefferson County (Jefferson County Historical Society Fund, Kentuckiana Girl Scout Fund, Rinda Raines Memorial) of the donorís charity of choice, through the funeral home.
