Virginia Tommy Harmon Hammond Pierce, 86

Virginia Tommy Pierce passes away at Hanover

Virginia Tommy Harmon Hammond Pierce, 86, of Hanover died Friday, October 18, 2013 at 3:40 p.m. at Hanover Health & Rehab Center in Hanover. Funeral services will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison with Pastor Josh Herschberger officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and a private burial will be at Moffett Cemetery in Milton, Kentucky.

Mrs. Pierce worked for many years at the U.S. Shoe Corporation and later at Walmart. She was a Christian and enjoyed attending many different churches. She was a member of the Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion Auxiliary, past president of the Madison Eagles Lodge and a member of the Madison Moose Lodge No. 765. In her spare time, Mrs. Pierce enjoyed sewing and being with her family.

Born August 28, 1927 in Prestonville, Kentucky, Mrs. Pierce was the daughter of Lloyd and Mary Foster Harmon. On April 1, 1944, she married Joseph Hammond.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Case of Madison; grandsons, James (Holly) Oak and Travis Case, all of Madison; granddaughter, Erica Case of Madison; great-grandchildren, Brookelyn, Lexy and Ray; four brothers, Gayle Harmon of Vevay, John and Keith Harmon, both of Trimble County, Kentucky and Steve Harmon of Okeana, Ohio; six sisters, Opal Harmon of Madison, Frances McFarland of Vevay, Joyce Romans of Madison and Diane Hensley and Byrell Westrick, both of Carrollton, Kentucky and Nadine McCane of Bedford, Kentucky.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by her stepmother, Lola Brown Harmon; brothers, Bobby, Dell and Ernest Harmon and sisters, Ruby Mae Harmon, Ernestine Harmon and Faye McQueary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Hammond Pierce Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
