Patsy R. Shippee, 84, a devoted church member

Patsy "Pat" R. (Gibson) Shippee, 84, of Seymour died Monday, October 14, 2013 Schneck Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at Voss Chapel on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Sandy Cooper officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery with a dove release.

Mrs. Shippee was a graduate of Campbellsville High School and attended Campbellsville Junior College in Campbellsville, Kentucky. She was the first executive secretary of Fruit of the Loom Manufacturing in Campbellsville, Kentucky. She had been a secretary at Redding Elementary School in Seymour for nine years where she also served as president of the PTA and PTA Council. Mrs. Shippee was a 64-year member of First United Methodist Church in Seymour where she taught Sunday School, served on the Mission Commission, helped with bake sales, rummage sales, Vacation Bible School and the childrenís choir. As a 57-year member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, she held all offices of the local Beta Kappa Chapter including president. Mrs. Shippee enjoyed watching and entertaining her great-grandchildren.

Born July 7, 1929, in Campbellsville, Kentucky, Mrs. Shippee was the daughter of Tommie S. and Ruth M. Gibson. She married Robert "Bob" Shippee on November 10, 1948 in Campbellsville, Kentucky. He died October 17, 2007.

Mr. and Mrs. Shippee shared their love of music as members of the Sexton Dance Club, worked the Jackson County Fair Horse Shows and attended Seymour High School Basketball games and tournaments together.

Survivors include her children, Connie Roney, Robert "Bud" (Debbie) Shippee, and Shirley (Perry) Knecht; eight grandchildren, Monica (Darin) Kriete, Wendy (Glenn) Meek, Andrew (Stephanie) Maschino, Sean Hanna, Barbara (Tommy) Phelps, Jamie (Kyle) Norman, Tyler Shippee, and Michael Knecht; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Zahler and brother: Tommie S. Gibson, Jr.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Shippee was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Findley and her stepfather, Ray Ford.
