S. Richard Lowry, 79 was a railroader 43 years
S. Richard Lowry, 79, of Deputy died Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 5:40 a.m. at the Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison.
Funeral services were Sunday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison with Pastor Howard Bell and Pastor Doug Chamness officiating. Burial was at Pisgah Cemetery near Deputy.
Mr. Lowry was a 1952 graduate of Deputy High School. He had been employed for 43 years with CSX Railroad in Seymour as a signal maintainer retiring in 1996. He also had farmed in Deputy since 1968. Mr. Lowry was a member of Deputy Alumni Association and Deputy Volunteer Fire Department where he had served as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. He enjoyed tinkering on his farm, being with family and friends and loafing at the Deputy Feed Mill.
Born October 6, 1934 in Scott County, Indiana, Mr. Lowry was the son of Stanley and Ersa Everhart Lowry. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Baker of Deputy on December 26, 1953. She survives.
Other survivors include sons, Tommy (Mary) Lowry of Deputy and Todd Lowry of Greensburg; grandchildren, Raina, K.C., Jacob, Tyler, Stetson and Kennedy; great-grandchild, Lakan Lowry and sister, Betty Jean Neff of Deputy.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lowry was preceded in death by a son, David Allen Lowry and a brother, Russell Lowry.
