Richard 'Gene' Watts was Army Air Force vet

Mr. Richard Eugene "Gene" Watts, 87, of Seymour died Friday, September 6, 2013 at Lutheran Community Home in Seymour.

Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church in Seymour Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Bruce Cochran and Rev. Larry Tingle officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour. Friends may call at Voss Chapel in Seymour Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday at First Baptist Church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

In 1963 Mr. Watts, an Army Air Force veteran, moved to Seymour and was employed with Gerwin Shoe Company and retired from U.S. Shoe Corporation in 1991. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Seymour for 50 years where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir Member. He was a member of Jackson Lodge F&AM #146 where he was a Master Mason. Mr. Watts loved the movies and in his retirement years he worked at the Great Escape Theater in Seymour. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels for 16 years. He loved working in his yard, fishing and hunting and attending his grandchildrenís church and school activities, especially traveling to attend many marching band competitions.

Mr. Watts was born in Moberly, Missouri on August 1, 1926, the son of Charles M. and Minnie Watts. On October 17, 1948 he married Alice L. Damgaard in Moberly, Missouri.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; children Chris (Becky) Watts and Ann (Greg) Parman; grandchildren, Allison Parman, Tracy (Steven) Tolliver and Mark Watts and siblings, Robert (Jeanne) and William (Norma) Watts, Betty (Charles) Skinner and Sharon (James) Matheny.

Mr. Watts was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be written to the First Baptist Church through the funeral home.
