Paul 'Dick' Rockey, 72, was Vernon VFD member
Paul Richard "Dick" Rockey, 72, of North Vernon died at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Ronnie McKinney officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 6 until 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
Mr. Rockey worked at the Rockey Top Cafe in Hayden and Rockey Top Catering. He had previously worked as a machinist for Reliance Electric in Columbus retiring in 2002 after 36 years. Mr. Rockey was a 1960 graduate of North Vernon High School. He was a member of Coffee Creek Christian Church in Paris Crossing and was a fireman for the Vernon Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years where he had formerly served as Fire Chief. He enjoyed sports, especially bowling and softball, and playing euchre.
Born February 24, 1941 in Johnson County, Mr. Rockey was the son of John and Minnie Hines Rockey. He married Edna McIntosh on August 21, 1965 at the Coffee Creek Christian Church in Paris Crossing. She survives.
Survivors include his wife; son, Paul Alan (Shannon) Rockey of Seymour; daughters, Pam Rockey and Paula Jo (Darrel Cook) Rockey both of North Vernon; one brother, Joseph (Donna) Rockey of Dayton, Ohio; five sisters, Ruth Marksberry, Delores Dixon, Marilyn Brown, Wilma (Bill) Grider and Edna (Raymond) Ernests all of North Vernon; seven grandchildren, Andy Rockey of North Vernon, Jacob, Lasaya, Keira and Jared Rockey, Olivia Issacs, Christy Lasaya and Xavier Hamilton, all of Seymour.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Rockey, Jr. and Robert Rockey and a sister, Shirley Poole.
Memorial may be made through the funeral home to family for expenses.
