Marvin R. Proffitt, 56, of L'ville was former resident
Marvin R. Proffitt, 56, of Louisville, Ky. and formerly of North Vernon, died July 19, 2013, at Jennings Healthcare Center.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Dale Boyd will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 until time of the service Tuesday. Burial will be at Baldwin Cemetery, with military honors provided by VFW Post 2021.
Mr. Proffitt served in the U.S. Army. He had previously been employed at Hatton's Carpet and as a food server at the homeless shelter. He had also been employed at Wheaton's in Westport and at Bartholomew County Beverage Company for several years. Mr. Proffitt loved music, wrestling, spending time with his family and spending time on the riverfront in Louisville.
Born February 14, 1957, in Goose Rock, Kentucky, Mr. Proffitt was the son of Melvin and Gladys Marcum Proffitt.
Survivors include six sisters, Sue and Anna Proffitt, Mabel Sharp and Donna Garrett, all of North Vernon and Tilly Spurlock and Phoebe Findley, both of Seymour and an aunt, Mattie Spurlock.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sister, Ida Mae Samson; five brothers, Johnny and Therman Proffitt and Silas, Howard and Thomas Spurlock.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Louisville Veterans Hospital or to the family for the funeral expenses.
