Katherine Orme Rogers taught school 32 years

Katherine Orme Rogers of Owingsville, Kentucky died Saturday, July 6, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

Funeral services were July 11 at Owingsville Christian Church with Rev. Anthony Anderson, Rev. Lowell Rice and Rev. Bob Ray officiating. Calling was Wednesday, July 10 at Richie Hunt Funeral Home in Owingsville, Kentucky.

Ms. Rogers graduated from Owingsville High School and attended Kentucky Wesleyan University, Indiana University and Morehead State University where she graduated and obtained her Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Library Science. She retired in 1988 after having taught school for 32 years.

Mrs. Rogers served two terms as president of the Woman's Club, was a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's sorority, and a past president of the Bath County Education Association. She was a member of the Owingsville Christian Church where she provided music in Sunday School and had been chairman of the worship committee. She was also active in 4-H work and was a Kentucky Colonel. Ms. Rogers enjoyed sewing, knitting, watching UK basketball and catering wedding receptions. She played the part of Mrs. Santa in the annual Christmas parade in Owingsville for many years.

Born in Bath County, Kentucky on February 22, 1924, Ms. Rogers was the daughter of Henry L. Orme and Lottie Crouch Orme.

Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Carrell Whitaker of Butlerville; son, Thomas Foster (Lorri) Rogers IV of Lexington, Kentucky; sister, Sara Jane Orme of Owingsville, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Robert L. Whitaker II of Greensburg, Thomas Foster Rogers V and Laura Katherine Rogers, both of Lexington, Kentucky and a great-granddaughter, Avery Nicole Whitaker of Greensburg.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and William Orme and a great granddaughter, Haley Marie Whitaker.
