Charles Hammond, 80 was father of 8 daughters
Charles "Charlie" Hammond, 80, of Huntington died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Markle Health and Rehabilitation in Markle.
A Mass of Christian burial was Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington with Father John Pfister officiating. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery at a later date. McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home in Huntington was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hammond graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1951. He owned Parcel Parts and worked for Hunckler Products for 23 years. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Hammond was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington, American Legion Post 85, Knights of Columbus, Industrial Management Club, Huntington Girls Softball League and Meals on Wheels.
Born April 27, 1933, in Huntington, Mr. Hammond was the son of Paul D. and Mary Gephart Hammond. He married Deloris Brickley on November 26, 1953, in Huntington. She survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include eight daughters, Ann (Gary) Beck of Granger, Catherine (Scott) Kovener of Crothersville, Rhonda (Mark) Overholser, Carrie Bannister, Carla (Jody) Selvage and Teresa (Mel) Fruit, all of Huntington and Paula (Mike) Dillon and Barbara (Rod) Osborne, both of Fort Wayne; one sister, Patricia A. (Bob) Fox of Huntington; 14 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas Hammond and Paul E. Hammond and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Westendorf.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, the Alzheimer's Association or Cancer Services for Huntington County, in care of the funeral home.
