WW II veteran Richard Clerkin fought in 3 wars
Richard "Dick" Clerkin, 88, of Atwater, California, died Saturday, June 15 at his home.
Mr. Clerkin attended North Vernon High School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. During WWII he was stationed on the Island of Tinian. Mr. Clerkin retired as a high school history teacher.
Born May 13, 1925 in North Vernon, Mr. Clerkin was the son of Leo and Mary Clerkin. He originally married Betty Kelso who preceded him in death. He then remarried.
Survivors include six children; numerous grandchildren and great-granchildren; brothers, Max Clerkin of Spartanburg, SC and Michael Clerkin of North Vernon and a sister, Jane McNeelan of Muncie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; sisters, Margaret Thompson, Shirley Eliot and Martha Lemen and brothers, Robert, James and John Clerkin.
