Melvin Dale Padgett, 65, to be interred at Vernon
Melvin Dale Padgett, 65, of North Vernon died at 6:32 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013 at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Jim Terry officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery with members of Matt Hester Post #2021, V.F.W. providing military graveside rites.
Mr. Padgett worked for the former North Vernon Forge for 11 1/2 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 until 1971. Mr. Padgett enjoyed watching television, racing and his dog "Pooh Bear."
Born September 19, 1947 in Rushville, Mr. Padgett was the son of Joseph and Juanita Burton Padgett, Sr. He married Christine Hacker on April 13, 1973 in North Vernon. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Carrie Ritchie of Seymour, Julie Greer of Greensburg and Patricia Ritchie of Indianapolis; brother, Joseph "Bud" (Joan) Padgett, Jr. of Greensburg; a half-brother; one sister, Delores (Gary) Dudgeon of Batesville; eight grandchildren, Britton (Carlos) Vazquez and Leslie Ritchie both of Seymour, Morgan and Gary Ritchie, Jr. both of North Vernon; Paige and Breanna Greer, both of Greensburg and Victoria and Tiffany Greer both of Rushville; three great-grandchildren, Bianca and Miguel Vazquez and Elaina Ritchie-Ramirez, all of Seymour.
Mr. Padgett was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and one sister.
