Leona Viola Brooks, 92, of Commiskey to be laid to rest in Illinois hometown
Leona Viola Brooks, age 92, of Commiskey died at 4 a.m. Sunday, March 23, 2013 at the home of her daughter.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Noble, Illinois. Visitation will be prior to the funeral from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at the Noble Prairie Cemetery. Local arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Stasi Grove Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Brooks had worked at the Olney Shoe Factory, was a homemaker and taught Sunday School for many years. She and her husband had enjoyed many years of camping with family and friends after they retired from farming.
Born January 22, 1921, in Noble, Illinois, Mrs. Brooks was the daughter of Walter and Anna Seessengood Allen. She married Gideon Brooks, Jr. on February 28, 1943. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2006.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Alfred) Graham of Commiskey; a son, Danny (Carolyne) Brooks of Noble, Illinois; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and three sisters.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund or Hospice of Indiana through the funeral home.
