Barbara King is the
publisher of the Plain Dealer & Sun newspapers. She grew up here in
North Vernon, the daughter of the late Burlin and Viola King who
purchased the weekly newspapers in 1954. The
third generation in her family to work in the newspaper field, Barbara
believes the Internet is the latest frontier for community journalism
and one that offers weekly newspapers in particular the opportunity to
expand services and readership. Besides
her business responsibilities, Barbara continues to contribute
regularly to the newspapers. She has covered the North Vernon City
Council since the early 1980's. >
Being
an active member of our community is a real asset when it comes to
understanding the stories we are covering on a daily basis," says King,
who encourages staff to get involved, too.
Barbara
is married to local attorney John Roche. The couple has two children,
Liam, who works in Indianapolis, and Nathan, a freshman at college.
