Players to bring uproarious mayhem to stage with 'Arsenic'

Mark your calendars and set your smartphones for Oct 24th and 25th for the auction of the year. Itís time again for the North Vernon Rotary Club Radio Auction. This yearís Auction will be broadcast, once again, from Garlitch Ford/Dodge/Jeep over 97.7FM/1460AM WJCP Radio on October 24th and 25th from 6 to 9 PM. Gifts from over 60 local merchants, businesses, and individuals will be auctioned to raise money to fund Rotary service projects that support our community. Past radio auctions have enabled the Rotary to sponsor/support JC Domestic Violence, the JC Community Youth Fund, the JC Senior Center, the Wayside Inn for the homeless, Bicycle Rodeo, Rotary Youth Leadership, annual speech and writing contests, Boy Scouts, disaster relief for flood victims, and mission trips to Vietnam and Haiti. In addition to our local service projects, the Rotary supports the Rotary Foundation which is a leading contributor towards the eradication of polio, and increasing the availability of clean water worldwide.
The public is invited to the 11th annual "Night Spirits" at the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site on Friday, Oct. 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. Costumed actors portraying spirits will recount several historic fires and explosions from the 19th century, including the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
The Columbus Bluegrass Jamboree will have free entertainment Saturday, Nov. 4 starting at 5 p.m. at Donner Center in Columbus. The jamboree will feature bluegrass and gospel bluegrass music by various bands including, Common Ground, Liberty Hill, Cumberland Gap, and Friends of Bluegrass.
The Jennings County Public Library is hosting its second annual Haunted Library event on Friday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m. This event requires no advanced registration and all ages are encouraged to attend.
A free lecture series starting this fall at Ivy Tech Community College will focus on Columbus history, its current state and where the community is headed. Columbus Past, Present & Future, sponsored by the University Library of Columbus and the Ivy Tech Phi Theta Kappa honor society, will feature distinguished local residents and area experts discussing various aspects of the city, including design, agriculture and notable characters who helped shape Columbus.

This series will deliver unique educational experiences to the community through performances and presentations and will foster thought-provoking conversations, led by subject-matter experts, during speaker panels and discussion forums. The Jennings County Players will open the 2017-18 theater season with Joseph Kesselring's award-winning play "Arsenic and Old Lace." The curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, and Saturday, Oct. 21, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Park Theatre Civic Centre.

A new musical group from Bloomington will perform in concert Saturday, Oct. 14, in Paris Crossing. The venue is the former Paris Crossing School Gymnasium, now known as the Coffee Creek Community Center.
Because of the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, there will be no garbage pick-up in North Vernon. The garbage collection route normally followed those days will be on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
