The 2015 Columbus Walk to End Alzheimers is this Sunday, Oct. 4. Hundreds pf residents from Bartholomew and surrounding counties will come together in support, honor, and celebration to secure a brighter future for families and people living with Alzheimer's disease as part of the world's largest event to raise funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research.
The town of Santa Claus is celebrating Halloween and more during Family Fall-O-Weekends continue through October. Each weekend will feature an overnight stay in Spencer County and tickets to Holiday World's Happy Halloween Weekends.
Scripted ghost stories and local folklore are in the works for the annual Ghost Walk and Mystery Dinner in Vernon. The Jennings County Historical Society events are slated for Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and will provide a jump start on the Halloween season.

There will be music, movies and politics for the Park Theatre Civic Centre's 12th annual Celebration Week the starts Friday, Sept. 25, and continues through Saturday, Oct. 3. "We are grateful to the community for supporting the Park Theatre since we opened in 2003," said Patti Yount, president of the nonprofit group's board. "We always try to offer good entertainment, especially during Celebration Week. And most of the events will be free this week. We can't do that without all our great volunteers and sponsors." Former Jennings County Sheriff Earl Taggart recently donated artifacts from his years as sheriff to the Jennings County Historical Society that are are now on display at the Jennings County Historical Museum in Vernon. "It is a wonderful display with a lot of interesting artifacts," said Chris Asher, a longtime Historical Society officer and volunteer. "Earl is so excited about the display and so are we. We think the public will love it, too." Taggart, who was sheriff from 1999 to 2007, donated a sheriff's uniform, badge, hat, horse blanket from the sheriff's posse, a large photograph of his sheriff department staff and even part of a jail cell door from the old county jail in Vernon. The Norman Station Conservation Club presents the best of Indiana Bluegrass at its annual outdoor Fall Bluegrass Festival Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19. Fourteen bluegrass bands will be performing over the weekend from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday.
